Superb Saturday
Learn To Fly is perhaps one of the best songs of the last twenty years. Foo Fighters, fronted by Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Taylor Hawkins, has to be one of the most talented and infectious groups in recent memory. They can take a song and make it a hit almost effortlessly. Their harmonies, the tight arrangements they achieve with their music, and the fervency of their fan base really makes them stand out from the pack.
Learn To Fly is a small masterpiece and the video is a delight every time you see it. With the guys starring in their own mini movie, playing most of the parts, sometime in drag, they are everything from themselves to the flight crew to the passengers to stewards and stewardesses. The presence of an unknown narcotic in the coffee turns the flight into a parody worthy of an Airplane! movie. This is a real lot of fun to watch.
And those lyrics stay with you long after the song is over. It’s a perfect pop hit with all the trimmings. Still a radio hit and an audience favorite, Learn To Fly will likely always be a big crowd pleaser. And isn’t that Jack Black in there too…
